DT RR1.2® – Wow, that’s a good looking rim…

We do not officially support the prospect of buying a wheel set due simply to how good it looks, but if that were indeed your motivation to add these to your arsenal, you will be pleased with your decision.  The DT RR1.2’s® finish is impressive, the machined sidewalls are the epitome of precision; the welded joint is an unnecessary perk.  The sidewalls are finished so smoothly in fact, that we can true wheels laterally to a level of precision that is way beyond necessary, sometimes down to sub one-half of one-tenth of one millimeter.  Did we mention that this rim is strong?

These wheels are built using a 32 hole/three cross lace pattern, which offers excellent lateral strength while still allowing each wheel to absorb a fair amount of road vibration.  These wheels will be custom built with the hub, spoke, and nipple selection of your choice, and will ship with skewers respective to your hub selection.  We hope that you will appreciate how responsive these wheels feel.

Shimano Dura-Ace

If you are researching the best wheels you can buy for your road bike, no doubt your search has included wheels built using Shimano's legendary Dura-Ace® hubs.  These hubs are beautifully finished, they feature a titanium free hub body, faster free hub engagement, and greatly improved seal barriers.  They are also 8, 9 or 10 speed compatible, so forget about making excuses. As expected, the overall finish and precision of this hub is incredible.  Holding this hub up close, it is difficult to find where perfection ends and art begins.

DT Swiss 240

DT Swiss 240 hubs are finished to an exacting standard of precision.  They employ the use of top quality sealed bearing, as well as an ingenious ratchet engagement system that can handle an extreme amount of torque and wear.  By design, these hubs are easy (in bike terms) to open up for inspection and/or maintenance.  In summary, these hubs are well thought out, well designed, and well executed; they are what you want and expect in a sealed bearing road hub.

Shimano Ultegra

Shimano Ultegra hubs offer the bulk of the functionality of the more prestigious (and more expensive) Shimano Dura-Ace hub line, and for good reason.  Years ago it seemed (to us atleast) that Ultegra hubs/components were the best that you would ever really want or need.  As time passed, and the forces of globalization developed, Shimano Dura-Ace became more and more accessable to non-racers.  At present, Ultegra is frequently compared to Dura-Ace with the effect of devaluing Dura-Ace as well as casting Ultegra in a shadow of mediocrity. 

The reality is that Shimano Ultegra hubs are outstanding road hubs, still a bench mark in precision, quiet engagement, and functionality.  Like every single Shimano hub, they use loose ball bearings which are easy to service.  Given regular maintenance and proper adjustment, and these hubs will offer virtually an unlimited service life.  In summary, Ultegra hubs offer a whole laundary list of positive attributes, the primary one being their overall exceptional value.

Shimano 105

We lovingly refer to 105 hubs as the mechanic's Ultegra.  This is due to the fact that given regular maintenance and proper adjustment, Shimano 105 hubs are every bit as functional as Ultegra hubs.  The harsh reality though, is that our everyday busy lives often means that time passes by quickly and things such as regular maintenance for our bicycle hubs are sidetracked indefinitely despite our best intentions.  That being said, however, maintenance requirements are as much a function of environment as anything else, so the meaning of the term "regular maintenance" is dependent on an assortment of criteria.  In summary, it is quite okay to expect great things from 105 hubs.
